Get social with your team before or after you play!

Being part of an adult recreational sports team is a fantastic way to keep fit, make friends, and have fun. However, after the games conclude, you often want to keep the good times rolling. There is no shortage of activities and attractions to keep you and your team entertained in Greater Akron. We came up with a short list of some of our favorite activities that you and your squad can do around town.

Take a Brewery Tour

If you and your team love beer, why not take a brewery tour? Akron is home to several craft breweries, each with its unique style and flavor. You can tour the brewery and taste its beers while learning about the brewing process. It’s an excellent way to unwind after a game, try some new beverages, and have a great time with your teammates.

First and foremost, we would recommend checking out our neighbors at the Canal Courts, and sponsors of our leagues – Missing Falls Brewery and R. Shea Brewing. Some other popular breweries close to our courts in Akron include Thirsty Dog Brewing Company, Lock 15, Hoppin’ Frog Brewery, and Akronym. The Summit Brew Path puts out an annual passport so you can check out ALL of the breweries in the area.

Take a Hike! (or Bike)

If you’re looking for some outdoor adventure, head to one of Akron’s many hiking trails, or bike on the Ohio and Erie Canal’s Towpath Trail. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is just a short drive away and offers over 125 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail is a great way to explore the Akron area and experience Ohio’s natural beauty. The 101-mile trail is literally connected to our sand volleyball courts in downtown Akron! The flat and well-maintained trail (mostly made of crushed limestone) makes it perfect for bikers of all skill levels.

Channel Your Inner Lion at The Akron Zoo

We know that you all have identified which of your teammates embodies a mouse and which one is more like a shark…so why not check out some actual animals?! The Akron Zoo is home to over 700 animals from around the world, making it a great day out for animal lovers. The zoo offers guided tours, animal feedings, and conservation efforts. You can learn about different animals and their habitats while having fun with your team. The zoo also has several special events throughout the year, such as Brew at the Zoo and Wild Lights.

Attend a Sports Event

If you and your team love sports, Akron has several local teams to cheer on. You can catch a baseball game in downtown Akron with Akron’s minor-league baseball team, The RubberDucks. Canal Park is within walking distance from our sand courts and they regularly have fireworks and other fun promotional nights. You could also support the Akron Zips, the University of Akron’s sports teams. UA’s Men’s Soccer program has been consistently one of the top in the country, but there’s lots of men’s and women’s sports at the University of Akron worth checking out.  Looking to see some star athletes compete and see some big important games north of Akron? Head up to Cleveland to watch the Cavs, Guardians, or Browns. Attending a sports event is a fun way to support local teams and bond with your team. There’s truly nothing like the excitement of live sports.

Visit a Museum

The greater Akron area has several museums that cater to a variety of interests. In downtown, The Akron Art Museum features contemporary art, while the Akron Children’s Museum is a great place to take the little ones. If you’re interested in history, you can visit the Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, which is a historic estate with a beautiful garden in West Akron. Hale Farm & Village is near the Towpath Trail, about 8-10 miles from our sand courts. Hale Farm and Village is a historic property of the Western Reserve Historical Society in Bath Township, and it is within the boundaries of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Visiting a museum can be a historical, fun, and educational way to spend time with your team.

Try an Escape Room or Board Game Bar

Escape Rooms are an excellent way to challenge your team’s problem-solving skills, teamwork, and communication. You will have a set amount of time to solve puzzles, clues, and riddles to escape the room. Akron has many escape rooms with varying themes and difficulty levels. Some of the best escape rooms in Akron include Akron Escape Room, Escape Room Cleveland, and Trapped! Escape Room. There’s also a brand-new board-game bar in downtown Akron called The Green Dragon Inn. They have an awesome cocktail and draft list as well as over 500 board games to play.
